2026 Volkswagen ID. Buzz Performance

The 2028 Volkswagen ID. Buzz is returning to U.S. dealers with a proven electric powertrain and meaningful new performance-oriented features that make the driving experience sharper than it was in 2025. With instant torque, a 200 kW fast-charging ceiling, and one-pedal driving now standard across every trim, the ID. Buzz performs as well as it looks. Suntrup Volkswagen in St. Louis is the place to get behind the wheel and experience it yourself.

Electric Motor and Powertrain Options

The 2028 ID. Buzz is available in two powertrain configurations. The rear-wheel-drive Pro S RWD uses a single rear-mounted electric motor producing 282 horsepower, drawing from a 91-kWh battery pack for an EPA-estimated range of 234 miles. That’s enough to cover a week of South County commuting on a single charge, with reserve to spare.

The three all-wheel-drive configurations (Pro S 4Motion, Tourer 4Motion, and Pro S Plus 4Motion) add a front motor, raising combined output to 335 horsepower. The added traction of 4Motion reduces EPA range slightly to 231 miles, a minor trade-off for the confidence that comes with all-wheel drive on Missouri’s wet and icy roads.

Both configurations deliver power instantly, without the lag of a traditional combustion engine. The ID. Buzz’s electric powertrain is particularly noticeable during merging and highway acceleration, where the smooth, immediate torque delivery stands out against comparable gas-powered vans.

Fast Charging and Range Flexibility

The 2028 ID. Buzz supports DC fast charging at up to 200 kW, placing it among the quicker-charging options in the family EV segment. On a fast charger, the 91-kWh battery can regain a meaningful amount of range during a short stop, making longer drives to the Ozarks or across Missouri more practical than they might be with slower-charging EVs.

All 2028 ID. Buzz trims come with a North American Charging System (NACS) port as standard equipment, giving owners direct access to Tesla’s Supercharger network in addition to CCS-compatible public chargers. In the St. Louis metro area and along I-44 and I-70, that’s a substantially expanded charging network compared to what 2025 ID. Buzz owners had access to.

At home, Level 2 AC charging supports overnight top-ups. Most households with a properly installed 240V outlet will wake up to a fully charged van.

One-Pedal Driving: The Update Owners Wanted Most

The 2028 ID. Buzz introduces true one-pedal driving as standard equipment on every trim, the single most requested improvement from 2025 owners. In one-pedal mode, lifting off the accelerator applies regenerative braking strong enough to bring the vehicle to a complete stop, capturing energy in the process. For stop-and-go driving on I-270 or Lindbergh Boulevard at rush hour, one-pedal mode reduces brake wear and makes low-speed driving more natural and engaging.

Capability Beyond the Commute

The 2028 ID. Buzz is built for family hauling, and its powertrain supports that role. Towing capacity reaches 1,650 pounds, enough for a small utility trailer, a loaded cargo trailer, or a compact camper. The Tourer 4Motion trim extends the ID. Buzz’s utility further with factory-integrated camping equipment, making it the only purpose-built electric van of its kind in the U.S. market.
